For a decade, the red and gold livery of Saudia has been a familiar and welcome sight gliding into Maldivian airspace. This week, the flag carrier of Saudi Arabia marked a significant milestone, celebrating 10 years of uninterrupted operations to the Indian Ocean archipelago with a vibrant ceremony at Velana International Airport (VIA).

To commemorate this historic anniversary, MACL extended a warm welcome to passengers arriving on Saudia’s SV838 flight. Departing travelers at Saudia Terminal 1 were also presented with commemorative treats by MACL staff, celebrating the airline’s decade of scheduled service to the Maldives.
Saudia’s presence in the Maldives has played an important role in the growth of the nation’s tourism industry. By providing reliable connectivity from major hubs like Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudia has helped bring visitors from across the Middle East, Europe, and Asia to the tropical archipelago.
Beyond tourism, the route has further strengthened bilateral ties between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Maldives, facilitating greater cultural exchange, trade, and diplomatic cooperation.
As Saudia celebrates a decade of flying to the Maldives, both MACL and the airline have expressed optimism for the years ahead. With a modernized fleet and a growing global network, Saudia remains a key partner for Velana International Airport and a vital contributor to the Maldivian economy.
