A Bengaluru–Varanasi IndiGo flight experienced a mid‑air scare on Saturday night after a passenger allegedly attempted to open the aircraft’s emergency exit door twice, later telling officials he was “possessed by a ghost.”

The incident occurred on IndiGo flight 6E‑185, which departed Bengaluru around 8:15 pm. About 15 minutes after takeoff, the passenger, identified as Mohammad Adnan, a resident of Mau district in Uttar Pradesh tried to tamper with the emergency exit. Cabin crew intervened immediately and issued a warning.
While he remained calm for most of the journey, the situation escalated during final approach into Varanasi. At around 10:20 pm, with the aircraft flying at roughly 500 feet, Adnan again attempted to open the emergency exit door. The crew alerted the cockpit, prompting the pilot to abort the landing and conduct a go‑around before returning for a safe landing at 10:35 pm.
Passengers described the moment as frightening but praised the crew for their swift response and professionalism. Following landing, Adnan was handed over to security personnel and the CISF, and a police case was registered.
During questioning, Adnan initially said he did not know why he acted that way, later claiming he was “possessed by a ghost.” He also told officials he had recently returned from a vacation in Goa and was unaware that the handle he pulled operated the emergency exit. Police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that his family has been informed.
