The Maldives is set to welcome a new European connection as Belavia, the national airline of Belarus, moves toward launching direct flights to the Maldives later this year. The airline has outlined plans for a limited trial series of six to eight flights starting in August, a step that could open a new long‑haul market for the destination.

Belavia’s management has described the Maldives as a promising long‑haul destination, despite higher operational costs. The initial flights will serve as a market test, allowing the airline to evaluate demand, performance, and long‑term viability before committing to a regular schedule. Tourism partners in Belarus and the Maldives are already engaged as part of the exploratory phase.

The airline’s planned entry comes at a time when carriers worldwide are adjusting networks due to ongoing disruptions across parts of the Middle East. Several airlines have expanded or rerouted services to maintain access to the Maldives.

Belavia is the national airline of Belarus, headquartered in Minsk and operating from its main hub at Minsk National Airport. Established in 1996, the carrier operates a fleet of Boeing and Embraer aircraft, serving destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. Known for connecting Belarus with key regional markets, Belavia focuses on scheduled passenger services and has expanded its network in recent years to include more leisure‑oriented routes.
