Lufthansa passengers are being warned of travel disruption next week after the airline’s pilots announced a two‑day strike beginning March 12, escalating an ongoing dispute over pay and working conditions.

The industrial action, called by the German pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit, is expected to affect both short‑haul and long‑haul operations across the carrier’s network.
The union said the walkout follows stalled negotiations with Lufthansa management, claiming that progress on salary adjustments and roster stability has been insufficient. According to union representatives, the strike is intended to pressure the airline into offering what they describe as a “fair and sustainable” agreement for cockpit crews.
Lufthansa has acknowledged the strike notice and said it is preparing an adjusted flight schedule to minimize the impact on travelers. The airline warned that cancellations and delays are likely unavoidable and urged passengers to monitor their booking status closely before heading to the airport. Customer service teams have been activated to assist with rebooking and alternative travel arrangements.
The strike adds to a series of labor disputes that have affected Germany’s aviation sector in recent months, with ground staff, security personnel, and air traffic workers also staging walkouts. Industry analysts say the recurring disruptions highlight broader tensions within the sector as airlines face rising operational costs and staffing challenges.
Lufthansa said it remains open to further talks and hopes to reach a resolution before the strike begins. However, with both sides holding firm, travelers are being advised to prepare for potential interruptions throughout the two‑day period.
