A Flydubai flight FZ1026 operating flight from Male’ to Dubai is currently returning to the Maldives after a sudden wave of airspace closures across the Gulf region made entry into the UAE impossible. The aircraft, which departed Male’ earlier today, initiated a turn‑back while en route when multiple Gulf states suspended flights and restricted airspace in response to escalating regional military activity.

Iran, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain enacted immediate airspace restrictions following a sharp rise in regional tensions, including explosions reported in Tehran and Israel’s confirmation of a military operation targeting Iran.
The UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority announced a temporary and partial closure of UAE airspace as a precautionary measure after assessing security and operational risks. Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority suspended all air traffic due to heightened security concerns, while Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation closed its airspace with immediate effect. Bahrain also imposed restrictions after reporting missile activity targeting sites within the kingdom.
The simultaneous closures have created a significant operational bottleneck across the region, affecting inbound flights and long‑haul overflights that rely on Gulf FIRs as part of east–west routing.
The closures have caused widespread disruption across the region. Gulf airports have suspended flights, and inbound aircraft have been forced to divert, hold, or return to their departure points. Long‑haul carriers are rerouting traffic away from the Gulf corridor, resulting in extended flight times and significant operational strain. Airlines including Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways and Kuwait Airways are adjusting schedules as the situation continues to evolve.
