Saudi Arabia Says Its Airspace and Territory Will Not Be Used for Any Strike on Iran

Saudi Arabia has formally informed Iran that it will not permit its airspace or territory to be used for any military action against the Islamic Republic, a position that significantly limits the operational options available to the United States amid heightened regional tensions.

According to sources cited by AFP, Riyadh delivered the message directly to Tehran, clarifying that the Kingdom will neither participate in nor facilitate any strike targeting Iran. The communication comes as Washington warns of potential military responses to developments inside Iran, while Tehran has threatened to retaliate against U.S. military and shipping assets if attacked.

Saudi officials emphasized that the Kingdom seeks to avoid being drawn into a wider conflict and is committed to maintaining regional stability. A source close to the Saudi military stated that Riyadh made clear it “will not be part of any military action taken against Iran,” underscoring its refusal to allow US forces to use Saudi bases, airspace, or logistical routes for offensive operations.

The stance aligns with a broader regional trend. Several Gulf states including the UAE and Kuwait have also communicated that they will not allow their territory or airspace to be used for attacks on Iran, reflecting widespread concern over the potential consequences of a US Iran confrontation.

The US maintains military assets across the Gulf, including in Saudi Arabia, raising questions about how Washington would execute any strike without regional basing support. The US Embassy in Riyadh has meanwhile urged its personnel to exercise increased caution as tensions continue to rise.

Saudi Arabia’s position also reflects its ongoing diplomatic recalibration following recent efforts to stabilize relations with Iran. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has repeatedly emphasized dialogue, de‑escalation, and respect for sovereignty as the preferred path to regional security.

As the situation evolves, Riyadh’s refusal to provide airspace or territorial access marks a significant strategic constraint for Washington and underscores the Gulf region’s growing reluctance to be entangled in a potential US–Iran conflict.
