Iran Reopens Airspace Amid Regional Tensions After Five‑Hour Closure

Iran has reopened its airspace after a temporary five‑hour closure that prompted several airlines to reroute, delay, or cancel flights across the region. The restrictions, issued late Wednesday, barred most overflights and inbound traffic except for international flights to and from Iran with prior approval.

The NOTAM was removed shortly before 10 pm local time, and flight‑tracking data showed the first aircraft  including services from Mahan Air, Yazd Airways, and AVA Airlines resuming operations over Iranian territory shortly after the reopening.

The closure affected airlines operating between Europe, the Middle East, and South Asia. Carriers such as IndiGo, Air India, Aeroflot, flydubai, and Turkish Airlines adjusted routes or cancelled flights during the shutdown.

The temporary shutdown occurred amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, with concerns about potential military action contributing to the decision to restrict airspace access. Aviation‑risk monitoring groups noted that many airlines had already reduced or suspended operations involving Iran due to the increased risk environment.

With the NOTAM lifted, Iranian airspace is technically open, though many international carriers continue to route around the region pending further stability. FlightRadar24 data shows domestic Iranian flights resuming normally, while most foreign airlines remain cautious.
