Afcom Cargo airline celebrates one full year of operations to Velana International Airport (VIA). The anniversary highlights the carrier’s growing contribution to the Maldives’ cargo sector and its role in strengthening regional supply chains.

Since launching services to VIA in early 2024, Afcom Cargo has completed 200 dedicated cargo flights, providing consistent uplift for importers, exporters, and logistics partners across the Maldives. Over the past 12 months, the airline has transported 4,000 tons of freight, ranging from perishables and pharmaceuticals to e‑commerce goods and general cargo.
The performance reflects Afcom Cargo’s steady expansion and its commitment to offering dependable capacity on a route that plays a vital role in supporting the Maldives’ economy.
Velana International Airport has been expanding its cargo handling capabilities in recent years, and Afcom Cargo’s entry has added valuable dedicated freighter capacity to the market. The airline’s operations have helped ease pressure on belly‑hold space, particularly during peak seasons when demand for imports surges.
Afcom Cargo’s network links the Maldives with key regional hubs, enabling faster movement of goods between South Asia and international markets.
By operating narrowbody freighters optimized for regional routes, Afcom Cargo has been able to offer frequent, targeted capacity that complements the services of larger carriers.
As Afcom Cargo enters its second year at Velana International Airport, the airline is expected to explore opportunities for expanded frequencies, new routes, and deeper partnerships with logistics providers. With demand for air cargo in the Maldives continuing to grow, Afcom Cargo is well‑positioned to play an even larger role in the country’s trade and economic activity.
