Maldivian is preparing to resume scheduled services to Dhaka, restoring a key South Asian connection that has faced intermittent operations and prolonged suspensions in recent years.

The national carrier first launched flights to the Bangladeshi capital on 15 November 2012, but the route has repeatedly been halted due to operational and commercial constraints. During the latest suspension, the Maldives–Bangladesh market continued to be served by US‑Bangla Airlines, which has maintained regular flights between Male’ and Dhaka.

Dhaka remains one of the Maldives’ most significant South Asian markets, driven by the large Bangladeshi expatriate workforce in the country, steady medical and leisure travel demand, and consistent cargo flows, particularly perishables and garments. With foreign carriers dominating the sector during Maldivian’s absence, the airline’s return marks a strategic re‑entry into a competitive and high‑demand corridor.

Historical schedules show Maldivian typically operating flight Q2502, departing Male’ at 08:40 and arriving in Dhaka at 13:40, using Airbus A320 family aircraft. While the airline has not yet released its updated timetable, the resumed service is expected to follow a similar pattern.

With three carriers now active on the route, competition is set to intensify. Maldivian’s reinstated presence is expected to broaden travel options and strengthen connectivity for Maldivian nationals and the substantial Bangladeshi workforce that relies on direct links between the two countries.
