According to sources familiar with the incident, the aircraft encountered a very large flock of birds while accelerating along the runway. The impact resulted in several bird strikes to the airframe and engines shortly after the takeoff roll began. The flight was carrying 155 passengers at the time.

Following the strikes, the flight crew discontinued the climb and initiated standard procedures before making a safe return to Mitiga International Airport. Emergency services were placed on standby as a precaution, though the aircraft landed without further incident.
