Villa Air’s return to seaplane operations marks a strategic shift from its previous focus on land based domestic routes using ATR aircraft. The airline had briefly operated a Cessna 208 Caravan seaplane in the early 2010s, primarily for charter and aerial photography, before exiting the segment.

The DHC-6 Twin Otter, known for its short takeoff and landing capabilities and reliability in marine environments, is widely used in the Maldives. With two aircraft now in service, Villa Air joins established operators such as Trans Maldivian Airways and Manta Air, contributing to the country’s vital tourism infrastructure.

Seaplane connectivity remains a cornerstone of the Maldives’ travel experience, offering guests seamless access to remote resorts and panoramic views of the atolls. Villa Air’s renewed investment in this segment reflects growing demand and the airline’s commitment to enhancing service offerings in the travel market.
