The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has released a preliminary report confirming that the flight crew of Air Peace Flight P47190 tested positive for alcohol and cannabis following a runway excursion at Port Harcourt International Airport on 13 July 2025.

The incident involved a Boeing 737-524 aircraft registered as 5N-BQQ, operating a scheduled domestic service from Lagos to Port Harcourt with 103 passengers and crew on board.

According to NSIB’s findings, the aircraft conducted an unstabilised final approach and landed 2,264 metres beyond the runway threshold on Runway 21. It came to a complete stop 209 metres into the clearway.

Toxicological tests conducted at Rivers State Hospital revealed that both the captain and first officer had Ethyl Glucuronide in their systems, indicating recent alcohol consumption. Additionally, a cabin crew member tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive compound found in cannabis.

NSIB stated that these findings are being reviewed under the framework of human performance and safety management, with implications for crew fitness, decision-making, and operational discipline.

In response to the incident, NSIB issued immediate safety recommendations to Air Peace. The Bureau emphasized that these are preliminary findings, and a full report with additional safety recommendations will follow.
