Hawks Pvt Ltd Brings ICON A5 Amphibious Aircraft to the Maldives

Hawks Pvt Ltd has brought the ICON A5 amphibious light sport aircraft to the Maldives. The aircraft’s arrival signals perhaps a new chapter in airborne exploration across the country.

Manufactured by ICON Aircraft in California, the ICON A5 is a two-seat, amphibious aircraft powered by a Rotax 912 iS Sport engine. It features a sleek, aerodynamic design with folding wings for easy transport and storage, a panoramic canopy that offers stunning visibility, and a cockpit layout designed to be intuitive even for novice pilots. With a cruise speed of approximately 85 knots and a range of over 420 nautical miles, the A5 is capable of short takeoffs and landings on both runways and open water.

To operate the ICON A5 in the Maldives, the aircraft must be registered with the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA) and comply with applicable airworthiness standards. For private use, this involves standard registration and adherence to maintenance and operational guidelines. However, commercial operations such as passenger transport, aerial tours, or resort transfers require an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and must meet more stringent regulatory requirements.

These include approved operating procedures, pilot licensing, safety management systems, and ongoing oversight by the MCAA to ensure compliance with national and international aviation standards.
