Departure of a Maldivian Airbus A330 service from Jeddah was delayed on Saturday due to a technical issue identified prior to pushback.

The flight, scheduled for 15:55 local time, was held on the ground while engineering teams addressed an engine-related matter. Following completion of the required inspections and maintenance actions, the aircraft departed at 18:17 local time.
Maldivian has not yet issued a statement regarding the delay. Technical events of this nature are not uncommon in commercial aviation and are managed in accordance with standard operational and safety procedures.
The Airbus A330 is the latest addition to Maldivian’s fleet, marking a significant step in the carrier’s growth strategy. The widebody aircraft has enabled the airline to expand beyond its traditional regional network into long-haul scheduled operations and high-capacity charter services.
Since its introduction, the A330 has been deployed on inaugural services to China, opening new market opportunities for tourism and trade. The aircraft has also been utilised for the commencement of Hajj flights providing direct, non-stop options for Maldivian pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia.
