Velana International Airport marked the opening of its new terminal with a Guinness World Record for the most venues performing a simultaneous choreographed fireworks display.

The record setting event was organized by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and executed across multiple locations, including Malé, Hulhumalé, Villimalé, and Addu City. All fireworks were launched in synchronized timing at 20:00 local time. The attempt was officially verified on site by a Guinness World Records adjudicator.
The coordinated display served as the closing segment of the terminal inauguration ceremony, which was attended by government representatives, aviation partners, and invited guests.
The new terminal at Velana International Airport is a major upgrade to the country’s primary gateway, expanding capacity to meet growing international passenger demand. It includes updated infrastructure, modern facilities, and increased operational efficiency to support the long-term development of the Maldives’ aviation and tourism sectors.
MACL stated that the record attempt was planned as part of the wider celebration and aimed to highlight the scale and significance of the terminal project.
