Maldivian has introduced updated safety measures concerning the carriage and use of power banks on board all flights, effective 6th July 2025 until further notice. The decision follows ongoing global safety concerns surrounding lithium battery devices and reflects the airline’s unwavering commitment to passenger and crew safety.

Key Restrictions on Power Banks
As part of the new policy, passengers are permitted to carry a maximum of two power banks per person, with each device not exceeding a capacity of 100 watt-hours (Wh).
To ensure proper handling and reduce the risk of overheating, combustion, or short-circuiting, the following rules must be observed:
Power banks must be carried in the cabin and kept on-person, in the seat pocket, or under the seat.
Storage in overhead bins is not allowed.
Power banks are strictly prohibited in checked baggage.
Use of power banks to charge devices or recharging the power banks themselves during the flight is not permitted.
Packaging & Safety Requirements
To prevent accidental activation or short circuits, passengers must:
Carry power banks in their original packaging, or
Ensure terminals are insulated (e.g., taped over or placed inside a plastic bag or protective pouch).
Additionally, all power banks must comply with international safety standards, specifically the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III, subsection 38.3, to ensure airworthiness and transport safety.
These measures align with international aviation safety regulations and are intended to minimize fire risks and ensure the safety of passengers, crew, and aircraft. Passengers are encouraged to adhere to the guidelines and check official channels for any updates or further travel information.
