Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of Malaysia Airlines, has placed a firm order for 20 additional Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, effectively doubling its future A330neo fleet to 40 aircraft. The announcement coincided with the official visit to France by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, H.E. Anwar Ibrahim.

This follow-up order builds upon MAG’s initial selection of the A330neo in 2022, part of its long-term widebody fleet renewal program. Four aircraft have already been delivered and are in operation on routes connecting Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne, Auckland, and Bali.
Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of MAG, described the A330neo as a pivotal part of the Group’s growth strategy.
“The A330neo continues to deliver the right balance of operational efficiency, range, and cabin comfort to support our network and growth strategy,” he said. “This additional order reinforces our long term vision of building a future ready fleet that supports sustainable growth, delivers consistent value to our passengers, and strengthens our competitiveness in key markets.”
The aircraft will be delivered with an all new premium cabin layout, reflecting Malaysia Airlines’ commitment to enhancing the customer experience and positioning itself as a leading premium carrier in the region.
Airbus expressed its pride in the growing partnership with Malaysia Aviation Group.
“This repeat order is a strong endorsement of the A330neo’s exceptional performance, fuel efficiency, versatility and passenger comfort,” said Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business at Airbus. “We are proud to further strengthen our relationship with Malaysia Aviation Group as it expands its A330neo fleet.”
Advanced Technology and Sustainability Focus
The A330-900 is powered by the latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and is capable of flying up to 7,200 nautical miles (13,300 kilometers) non-stop. The aircraft features Airbus’ award-winning Airspace cabin, designed to elevate the passenger experience with:
More personal space
Larger overhead storage bins
Advanced ambient lighting systems
Latest in-flight entertainment and connectivity
From a sustainability perspective, the A330neo can already operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with Airbus targeting 100% SAF capability by 2030.
As of May 2025, the A330 Family has recorded over 1,800 firm orders from more than 130 customers globally. The new order by MAG further solidifies the A330neo’s reputation as a preferred widebody choice for airlines seeking a balance of fuel efficiency, performance, and cabin innovation.
