In a dramatic escalation of tensions in the Middle East, the United States has conducted airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities using B-2 Spirit stealth bombers. The operation, authorized by President Donald Trump, targeted three key sites: Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan, all of which are central to Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

The B-2 bombers, which launched from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, flew a 37-hour non-stop mission, refueling mid-air multiple times before reaching their targets in Iran. These aircraft are among the most advanced and expensive in the world, each costing approximately $2.1 billion, and are uniquely capable of delivering the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator, a 30,000-pound “bunker buster” designed to destroy deeply buried facilities.
According to US defense officials, the strike was aimed at crippling Iran’s ability to enrich uranium and develop nuclear weapons. President Trump declared the mission a “very successful attack,” stating that “Fordow is gone” and that all aircraft returned safely.
The strikes come amid heightened hostilities between Iran and Israel, with both nations exchanging airstrikes in recent weeks. The U.S. action appears to be a coordinated effort with Israeli forces, who had already compromised parts of Iran’s air defense systems through earlier operations.
While there were no reported US casualties, the Pentagon has increased alert levels for the nearly 40,000 American troops stationed in the region, anticipating potential retaliation from Iran. Iranian officials have confirmed damage to the Fordow site and are reportedly assessing the full extent of the impact. This marks one of the most direct U.S. military actions against Iran in recent years.
