Investigators have successfully retrieved the black box recorder from the crash site of Air India Flight Al171, which tragically went down in Ahmedabad, India, on June 12, 2025. The recovery of this crucial flight data recorder is expected to provide insights into the cause of the disaster, which has claimed 265 lives so far.

The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, plummeting into the Meghaninagar area, a densely populated residential zone. The aircraft struck BJ Medical College and Hospital, leading to additional casualties on the ground.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Kanan Desai confirmed that 265 bodies have been recovered, including at least 24 civilians who were killed in the impact. Authorities warn that the death toll may rise further as more remains are identified .
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) are leading the probe. The black box, which contains the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), will be analyzed to determine the sequence of events leading to the crash.
Early reports indicate that the pilots issued a MAYDAY distress call moments before the aircraft lost altitude. However, the plane did not respond to subsequent air traffic control communications.
