Temporary travel restriction imposed on visitors from South Asian countries to the Maldives on 13th May due to the the rise in COVID19 cases is lifted today, 15th July.
The restriction resulted in the cancellation of several flights, especially from India as Indian tourists accounted for 20% of all tourists to the Maldives in 2021.
The travel ban was imposed on Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Tourists can enter the Maldives holding a negative result for a nucleic acid test (PCR test) for COVID19 taken 96 hours before departure from the first port of embarkation en-route to the Maldives.
Tourists who have prescribed dose(s) of COVID19 vaccine are also required to hold a negative PCR test for COVID19.
Children below one-year-old are exempt from the requirement of the PCR test.
