The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a wide-body jet aircraft manufactured by Boeing. The program was initially launched in 2004 targeting a 2008 release however, facing multiple delays, the first Dreamliner was delivered in 2011.
All Nippon Airlines was the launch customer of the 787 with 50 initial orders for the aircraft.
Today Boeing has delivered more than 1,000 Dreamliner’s reaching the milestone 7 years earlier than the Boeing 777. The 787 received over 500 orders even before the delivery of the first aircraft.
The 1,000th Dreamliner, a 787-10 with the 1000th Dreamliner sticker is for Singapore Airlines which has finished building and is waiting for delivery.
Boeing has 486 unfilled orders remaining for the Dreamliner however the aircraft deliveries have been halted.
Following orders from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Boeing is required to demonstrate its proposed inspection methods for addressing quality issues using a system that would allow for targeted checks of newly produced aircraft.
The halt adds further delays and financial losses for the plane manufacturer. Boeing had planned to deliver 10-12 Dreamliner’s each month.
