China Launches Its Third And Most Advanced Aircraft Carrier

Yesterday, China officially launched its third and most advanced aircraft carrier named "Fujian”.

Launched in Shanghai's Jiangnan Shipyard Fujian is China's first domestically designed and built catapult aircraft carrier.

The Fujian is equipped with a launch system, blocking devices, and a full-load displacement of more than 80,000 tons.

It’s the first Chinese carrier to be equipped with an electromagnetic catapult for launching as the older carriers rely on a “ski jump” configuration.

The carrier was named after the Fujian province on the country's southeastern coast. China’s first two carriers, Liaoning and Shandong were also named after provinces.

China’s defence ministry is yet to announce a date for the carriers entry into service and it is reported that Fujian will take a couple more years to reach operational capacity.
