Sichuan Airlines, a Chinese airline based in Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, has announced its plans to launch a new service to the Maldives starting August 2023.
The airline will operate weekly three direct flights between Chengdu Tianfu and Male, using Airbus A320 aircraft.
Sichuan Airlines is the largest airline in western China and operates mainly scheduled domestic and international flights out of Chengdu Shuangliu Airport, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, and Kunming Changshui International Airport.
The Maldives has experienced a significant increase in tourism following the relaunch of flights between China and the Maldives. As of today, more than 80,000 Chinese tourists have arrived in 2023, accounting for a market share of 7.9%.
