Indian national carrier Air India has placed an order for a whopping 470 jet airplanes.
The massive order consists of 250 Airbus jets and 220 Boeing jets under the new decade-long transformation plan by new owners TATA Group. TATA Group originally owned Air India before it was nationalized in 1953.
The Airbus deal was announced in an online briefing attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron. Later US President Joe Biden announced the Boeing order.
The 250 Airbus jets include 210 A320neo family aircraft as well as 40 A350s. The 220 Boeing jets include 190 737 MAX, 20 787s, and 10 of its largest 777X.
India as the seventh largest civil aviation market in the world has big ambitions in growing ranks in the biggest aviation markets in the world.
