On January 31, 2025, a private Learjet 55 crashed near Roosevelt Mall in northeast Philadelphia, resulting in a significant fire and multiple fatalities. The aircraft, registered as XA-UCI, took off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport at 6:06 p.m. but disappeared from radar just 30 seconds later after reaching an altitude of 1,600 feet. The crash occurred near Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard, approximately five kilometers from the airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that two individuals were on board the Learjet 55, which was en route to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri. Upon impact, the aircraft caused a massive explosion, setting multiple homes ablaze and leading to the closure of several roads in the vicinity.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro announced that all state resources have been mobilized to address the emergency. The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management classified the event as a “major incident” and advised the public to avoid the affected area while rescue teams continue their work.

Eyewitnesses reported a column of smoke near Roosevelt Mall shortly after the crash. Dashcam footage captured the exact moment of impact, showing a huge fireball erupting upon collision.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have initiated investigations to determine the cause of the crash. As of now, the identities of the victims have not been released, and authorities are working to gather more information.
