De Havilland Carried Out the First Test Flight of the Twin Otter Classic 300-G

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada has successfully conducted the first test flight of the Twin Otter Classic 300-G, marking a significant milestone for the iconic aircraft series. Designed to meet the evolving demands of regional aviation, the updated Twin Otter integrates modern technologies to enhance performance, efficiency, and versatility.

De Havilland first announced ed  Twin Otter Classic 300-G at the Paris International Air Show in 2023 with combined purchase agreements and letters of intent totaling 45 aircraft.


Here are key details about the Classic 300-G:


  1. State-of-the-Art Avionics Suite: The Classic 300-G is equipped with the fully integrated Garmin G1000® NXi avionics suite. This includes functionalities such as autopilot, FMS, weather radar, satellite communications, ground proximity warning, traffic advisory, flight tracking system, synthetic vision, and video display.


  2. Performance Upgrades: Propelled by Pratt & Whitney engines, the Classic 300-G offers two options. The standard PT6A-27 engine emphasizes economy with efficient performance and fuel consumption. For extreme operational demands, the optional PT6A-34 engine delivers robust performance.


  3. Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) Capability: The aircraft can take off in just 1,200 feet (366 meters) and land in 1,050 feet (320 meters).


  4. Payload and Range Improvements: With a weight reduction of 400–500 pounds, the Classic 300-G offers increased payload capacity and extended range.


  5. Redesigned Cabin Interior: The cabin of the Classic 300-G has been modernized to blend aesthetics and functionality. The new design includes better natural lighting, improved passenger service units with LED lights, and gaspers for enhanced comfort.


  6. Flexible Interior Configurations: The aircraft supports multiple interior configurations, such as all-passenger, all-cargo, quick-change, dual-class, VIP, paratroop, and special mission setups.


  7. Environmental Adaptability: The Classic 300-G can be equipped with various landing gear configurations, including wheels, floats, amphibious floats, wheel skis, and intermediate flotation gear.


The Classic 300-G is the fifth generation of the Twin Otter aircraft, joining the current Series 400.
