General Atomics AeroTec Systems GmbH (GA‑ATS) has officially unveiled the Do228 NXT, the next‑generation evolution of the Dornier 228, in a rollout ceremony that marks the first new German‑built aircraft series introduced in many years. The event, held at the company’s Oberpfaffenhofen facility, gathered hundreds of guests from government, industry, and the aviation community, including members of the Dornier family.

The Do228 NXT represents a comprehensive modernization of the proven Dornier 228 platform, integrating a redesigned cockpit, updated avionics, enhanced cabin options, and new mission‑system capabilities. GA‑ATS described the aircraft as a “future‑ready multi‑role turboprop” aimed at civil, governmental, and military operators worldwide.
The rollout aircraft features a distinctive blue‑triangle livery symbolizing aerodynamic flow, system integration, and the camouflage tones associated with security‑sector missions. The demonstrator will serve as the lead platform for continued flight testing, system refinement, and customer demonstrations.
GA‑ATS confirmed that the Do228 NXT will make its first public appearance at the ILA Berlin Air Show 2026, followed by an international debut at the Farnborough International Airshow in July. The company expects strong interest from operators seeking a versatile aircraft capable of maritime patrol, border surveillance, environmental monitoring, medical evacuation, and regional transport.
With the unveiling now complete, the Do228 NXT enters the next phase of its development program, positioning itself as one of Europe’s most adaptable light‑twin turboprops and a symbolic revival of German aircraft manufacturing heritage.
