Riyadh Air has marked a major milestone in its launch preparations with the arrival of two brand‑new Boeing 787‑9 Dreamliners, the first aircraft to officially join the carrier’s fleet. The twin deliveries signal the beginning of the airline’s build‑up toward commercial operations as Saudi Arabia pushes forward with its aviation expansion under Vision 2030.

The aircraft, registered HZ‑RXAA and HZ‑RXAB, touched down at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh in a coordinated sequence, each receiving a ceremonial water‑cannon welcome. Both jets feature Riyadh Air’s signature deep‑violet livery and the airline’s newly developed cabin layout, designed to position the carrier as a premium, digitally driven global airline.
The two Dreamliners are the first from Riyadh Air’s order for up to 72 Boeing 787s, forming the backbone of its long‑haul network. The airline plans to operate routes across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, with early destinations expected to include London, Cairo, and Jeddah.
CEO Tony Douglas described the dual delivery as a “historic moment” for Saudi aviation, noting that the new fleet will support the Kingdom’s goal of transforming Riyadh into a major global hub. The airline aims to serve 100 destinations by 2030 with a projected fleet of more than 180 aircraft.
The two 787‑9s will now undergo final preparations, including crew training, cabin checks, and route‑proving flights, before entering service. Industry analysts say the simultaneous arrival of the first two aircraft underscores the scale and ambition of Riyadh Air’s launch strategy.
