Airbus has reached two major program milestones, confirming that total orders for the A220 have now exceeded 1,000 aircraft, while the A320 Family has crossed the 20,000‑order mark, reinforcing its position as the most successful commercial jet family in aviation history.

The manufacturer announced the achievement alongside its latest commercial activity update, which included 379 gross orders and 81 aircraft delivered to 45 customers in May. The strong intake reflects sustained global demand for fuel‑efficient single‑aisle aircraft as airlines continue to expand capacity, modernise fleets, and prepare for long‑term traffic growth.

Airbus’ May deliveries spanned airlines and leasing companies across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas, reflecting sustained global demand for efficient single‑aisle aircraft. The strong order intake was driven by fleet‑expansion plans, replacement of older aircraft, and long‑term growth strategies as passenger traffic continues to rise.

Industry analysts say the dual milestones highlight both the maturity of the A320 programme and the accelerating momentum of the A220, which has gained traction for its fuel efficiency, range flexibility, and passenger comfort. The manufacturer noted that production ramp‑ups across its assembly sites including Toulouse, Hamburg, Mobile, and Mirabel remain a priority as it works to meet record‑high demand.

With a robust backlog and continued interest from carriers worldwide, Airbus enters the second half of 2026 with one of the strongest commercial pipelines in its history.
