Maldivian’s Airbus A330 has landed in Melbourne today, marking a major milestone as the airline prepares to launch the first direct commercial flights between Australia and the Maldives.

The wide‑body aircraft arrived at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport on a special positioning flight, ahead of the inaugural service that will formally open nonstop connectivity between the two countries for the first time in aviation history.

The new route is being introduced in partnership with Luxury Escapes, the Australian travel company coordinating and marketing the direct flights. Through this collaboration, Maldivian will operate dedicated services for Luxury Escapes customers, supporting strong demand from the Australian leisure market and expanding the Maldives’ visibility as a premium long‑haul desti

This route is expected to strengthen tourism flows, improve travel convenience for passengers, and expand the airline’s international footprint. The service will also provide Maldivian nationals living or studying in Australia with a direct link home, eliminating the need for transits through Asian hubs.

The A330, configured for long‑haul operations, will operate the route with a full suite of passenger amenities designed for extended flights across the Indian Ocean.
