A minor fire broke out on Thursday evening at Terminal 1 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai, prompting an immediate response from airport emergency teams. The incident, reported at around 6:10 pm, was traced to an electrical short circuit in the terminal’s ground‑floor utility and electrical areas.

According to airport officials, the blaze was quickly contained within minutes by the airport’s Emergency Response Team, with support from the Mumbai Fire Brigade. The fire remained confined to cable trays, switch boxes, and electrical panels, and did not spread to passenger areas.

Authorities confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported. Airport operations, including arrivals and departures, remained unaffected, although electrical systems in parts of the terminal were temporarily shut down as a precaution.

Videos shared on social media showed thick smoke inside parts of the terminal, but officials stressed that the situation was brought under control and declared safe after inspections.

Firefighting teams extinguished the blaze by approximately 9:20 pm, after ensuring that all affected electrical installations were secured. Officials described the incident as a Level‑1 (minor) fire, the lowest category in the city’s emergency classification.

A spokesperson for CSMIA reiterated that the fire was minor, caused by a short circuit, and that airport operations continued normally throughout the evening.
