Iraq has officially reopened its airspace to all commercial and international flights following a 40 day closure prompted by regional conflict, authorities confirmed.

The move comes after a reported ceasefire between the United States and Iran, which helped stabilise conditions and significantly reduce risks to civil aviation operating in the region.

In an official statement, the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority announced that the reopening is effective immediately. Airlines are now permitted to resume takeoffs, landings, and overflights through Iraqi airspace.

The closure, initially implemented amid heightened military activity and security concerns, had forced numerous international carriers to reroute flights, leading to longer flight times and increased operational costs.

With the airspace now accessible, airlines are expected to gradually restore normal flight paths, improving efficiency for routes connecting Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

The Civil Aviation Authority added that it will continue to monitor regional developments closely in coordination with international aviation bodies to ensure ongoing safety for all air traffic.
