De Havilland Canada Celebrates 1000th Twin Otter Delivery with SATENA

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited has celebrated the delivery of its 1000th DHC‑6 Twin Otter, a landmark achievement for one of the world’s most recognizable utility aircraft. The milestone aircraft, along with the 999th Twin Otter, has been delivered to SATENA, Colombia’s state‑owned regional airline.

The Twin Otter program, which began in the 1960s, was originally designed to open access to Canada’s remote northern regions. Over the decades, it has become synonymous with rugged reliability, short takeoff and landing performance, and the ability to operate in some of the world’s most challenging environments.

For SATENA, the new aircraft represent a significant expansion of its mission to serve remote and underserved communities across Colombia’s mountains, jungles, and coastal regions. The airline now operates four De Havilland Canada aircraft, reinforcing a partnership built on shared purpose and operational needs.

SATENA President Major General Óscar Zuluaga described the delivery as both an honour and a practical boost to national connectivity, noting the aircraft’s essential role in linking communities that depend on reliable air service.

De Havilland Canada CEO Brian Chafe emphasized that reaching 1000 deliveries reflects the dedication of the company’s workforce and the trust placed in the Twin Otter by operators worldwide. The aircraft continues to support missions ranging from commercial transport to humanitarian operations, medevac, surveillance, and more.

With more than 5,000 aircraft delivered globally, De Havilland Canada remains a cornerstone of Canadian aerospace manufacturing, contributing to high‑value jobs and a resilient national industry.
