Airlines operating at Velana International Airport (VIA) say they were not given the advance notice required to prepare for the planned relocation of domestic operations to Terminal 2 today.

Sources told Aviators Maldives that airlines did not receive clear timelines, operational details, or the standard preparation period normally provided for a terminal change. The information shared before the move was described as minimal, leaving teams with almost no time to organise staff, equipment, and passenger‑handling arrangements.
According to these sources, the short notice has already created significant pressure as airlines attempt to reorganize their work for the new terminal.
Clear instructions on placement and procedures inside the new terminal are necessary for a smooth transition, but such details were not provided in advance.
Terminal 2 offers more space and upgraded facilities for domestic operations, and sources expect long‑term improvements once airlines settle into the new environment. However, they noted that the transition would have been far smoother with proper communication, structured planning, and sufficient preparation time.
Airlines are now working urgently to adjust their teams and processes ahead of the start of operations at Terminal 2 later today. Staff are being reassigned, briefings are being rushed, and equipment is being set up as quickly as possible to minimise disruption once flights begin using the new terminal.
