Apogee Aerospace Pvt. Ltd. has placed a landmark USD 435 million order for 15 Albatross 2.0 amphibious aircraft from Australia’s Amphibian Aerospace Industries (AAI), marking one of the most significant commercial commitments yet in India’s emerging amphibious aviation sector.

Beyond the aircraft acquisition, the agreement outlines a broader industrial partnership that could see a final assembly line for the Albatross series established in India, positioning the country as a future hub for amphibious aircraft manufacturing and regional export.

According to both companies, the first twin‑turboprop Albatross 2.0 will be delivered to India within the next six months. The first fully operational aircraft is expected to enter the Indian market in 18–24 months, aligning with Apogee Aerospace’s plans to accelerate amphibious aviation capability across the country.

Strategic Boost for India’s Maritime and Island Operations

The deal is widely viewed as a strategic step toward strengthening India’s maritime aviation ecosystem.

With India’s extensive coastline, remote island chains, and growing maritime security requirements, the Albatross 2.0 is expected to fill roles ranging from search and rescue (SAR) and maritime patrol to medical evacuation, cargo transport, and inter‑island passenger operations.

The potential establishment of a domestic assembly line represents a major opportunity for India’s aerospace manufacturing sector. If finalized, it would:

  • Reduce long‑term acquisition and maintenance costs

  • Enable technology transfer and local workforce development

  • Position India as a regional supplier of amphibious aircraft

  • Support the government’s “Make in India” and defence‑industrial growth objectives

The USD 435 million order signals a decisive shift in India’s aviation landscape, marking the country’s most ambitious move yet toward establishing a sustainable, multi‑role amphibious aircraft fleet.
