Flight operations to Fuvahmulah are expected to resume once a replacement fire truck currently en route from Gan International Airport arrives and is commissioned at the airport.

The vehicle is being transported via landing craft and is scheduled to reach the island later tonight, following the temporary suspension of services due to the airport’s firefighting capability falling below regulatory minimums.
The airport was downgraded to fire category zero after its fire vehicle became unserviceable, prompting an immediate halt to all scheduled flights. Under aviation safety regulations, airports must maintain a minimum fire category to support aircraft operations for passenger services.
Maldivian, the only airline operating flights to Fuvahmulah, confirmed the cancellations and has been assisting affected passengers with rebooking and travel support. The airline has indicated that services will resume promptly once the fire truck is operational and the aerodrome’s fire category is reinstated.
The incident has highlighted the importance of equipment redundancy and contingency planning at domestic airports across the Maldives.
