This initiative supports the CAA’s enforcement powers under new regulation issued in May 2025 which sets out the requirement for the CAA to conduct such tests during RAMP inspections. All operational crew can be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

The inclusion of drug and alcohol testing within ramp inspections reflects the aviation sector’s unwavering commitment to safety. In an environment where operational integrity and crew fitness are non-negotiable, this measure serves as a proactive safeguard strengthening oversight, minimizing risk, and reinforcing public confidence in the system’s resilience.
