Qatar has temporarily closed its airspace as a precautionary measure following escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly after US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. The closure was announced on June 23 by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, citing the need to ensure the safety of residents, visitors, and aviation operations.

The move came just hours after the US and UL embassies in Doha issued advisories urging their citizens to shelter in place “out of an abundance of caution.” These warnings triggered widespread alerts across institutions in Qatar, including American universities and international schools, many of which suspended operations or advised staff and students to remain at home.
Qatar is home to Al Udeid Air Base, the largest US military installation in the Middle East and the forward headquarters of US Central Command. With approximately 10,000 American troops stationed there, the base is considered a potential target amid Iranian threats of retaliation following the U.S. strikes on Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.
Despite the airspace closure, Qatari authorities emphasized that the security situation within the country remains stable. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the decision was a proactive step and not necessarily linked to any specific threat.
