De Havilland Aircraft of Canada is preparing for a revival in its manufacturing operations, with plans to restart production of both the DHC-515 Firefighter and the iconic Dash 8 turboprop aircraft.

This move signals a renewed commitment to regional aviation and specialized mission aircraft, following a production pause that began in 2021.

The company has established a new facility, De Havilland Field in Wheatland County, Alberta, which will serve as the future hub for final assembly of the Dash 8, DHC-6 Twin Otter, and DHC-515 aircraft A. This modern site is set to include a runway, parts manufacturing and distribution centers, and a maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility.

While the Dash 8 has long been a staple in regional aviation, known for its durability and performance in challenging environments, De Havilland is taking a measured approach to its return.

The company is currently engaging with operators worldwide through a Product Strategy Council to assess market needs and shape the future of the Dash 8 program.
