In response to the tragic crash of Air India Flight Al171 in Ahmedabad, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued enhanced safety directives for Air India's Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliner fleet. The measures, aimed at preventing future incidents, focus on critical system inspections and operational checks.

The DGCA has mandated a series of one-time inspections and ongoing monitoring of key aircraft systems, including:

  • Fuel Parameter Monitoring & System Checks

  • Hydraulic System Serviceability Checks

  • Electronic Engine Control (EEC) System Tests

  • Engine Fuel-Driven Actuator Operational Test & Oil System Test

  • Review of Take-off Parameters

  • Cabin Air Compressor & Associated System Inspections

  • Flight Control Inspections During Transit Operations (Until Further Notice)

  • Power Assurance Checks Within Two Weeks

  • Closure of Maintenance Actions on Repetitive Snags from the Last 15 Days

These measures apply to Air India's Boeing 787 aircraft equipped with GEnx engines, ensuring compliance with regulatory safety standards.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India, issued an official notification stating: "In light of the Al171 accident on 12.06.2025, DGCA issues directives to Air India to carry out additional maintenance actions on B787-8/9 aircraft equipped with GEnx engines with immediate effect."

The directive requires Air India to submit reports on all inspections and findings to the DGCA for further review. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) continues its probe into the Al171 crash, with the black box recovered and analysis underway. Authorities are expected to release preliminary findings in the coming weeks
