Hanimaadhoo International Airport Development project funded through USD 800 million Line of Credit from EXIM Bank of India has been awarded to JMC Projects (India)
The Hanimaadhoo International Airport’s development project will see the construction of a passenger terminal, cargo terminal, fuel farm, and fire fighting facility costing USD 136 million.
Furthermore, the airport's existing runway will be extended to 2,400m to allow for larger aircraft operations.
Upon completion, the Airport can handle 1.3 million passengers annually and will be able to cater narrow-body jets like the Airbus 320 and the Boeing 737.
Currently, national airline Maldivian only operates scheduled domestic and international flights from Hanimaadhoo to various airports in the Maldives and India.
This project will allow for the transformational development of the economies in the Northern atolls.
