Trans Maldivian Airways has introduced new and efficient 4 blade MT propellers for its DHC6 -1/2/3/400 Seaplane Twin Otter fleet.
MT Propeller Entwicklung GmbH was founded in 1980 by Gerd Muehlbauer and is well known in the world of general avaition as the leading manufacture of natural composite propellers for single and twin engine aircraft, airships, wind tunnels and other special applications.
MTV-16-1-E-C-F-R(P)/CFR240-55 is a 4 blade hydraulically actuated, constant speed, counterweighted reversing propeller with 94.5 inch diameter ( 107.5kg, weight of both props ). The pitch changing mechanism is hydraulically operated to fine and reverse pitch and mechanically assisted to coarse and feathering pitch by internal springs and blade counterweight. The propeller construction consists of natural composite blades mounted in a conventional aluminum hub. Metal erosion sheaths protect propeller blade leading edges from erosion.
Advantages over 3 blade propellers: - Reduced vibration. - Enhanced takeoff distance , climb performace by approx 5%. - Enhanced cruise performance by approx 2%. - Unlimited blade life. - Cooler ITT during engine start up, therefore less engine wear. - Significant inside and outside noise reduction.
