Velana International Airport Welcomes China Eastern Airlines to Terminal 1 with Ceremonial Water Salute

China Eastern Airlines has commenced operations from Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport, joining the growing number of carriers shifting to the newly opened facility. The arrival was marked with a ceremonial water salute, a tradition to honor new airline operations.

The flight was received by distinguished guests including the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, His Excellency Mr. Kong Xianhua, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, senior management representatives from MACL, China Eastern Airlines Maldives Office General Manager Li Jia, and Villa Travels Station Manager Mohamed Fayaz.

Passengers on the inaugural flight were greeted with a warm welcome, reflecting the close ties between the Maldives and China. The event highlighted the importance of enhanced air connectivity in supporting tourism and trade, while also showcasing MACL’s commitment to providing a smooth transition for airlines moving into the new terminal.

China Eastern Airlines’ operations at Terminal 1 are expected to provide greater convenience for travelers and strengthen connectivity between the Maldives and China.
