The United States has issued level 4 travel advisory to the Maldives advising citizens to not travel to the country.
This comes after former president and present parliament speaker Mr. Mohamed Nasheed was injured following a blast outside his family home yesterday.
The advisory states to not travel to the Maldives due to rise in COVID19 cases and to exercise increased caution due to concerns over terrorism activity.
The travel advisory was earlier set at level 2 following the spark of COVID19 cases. The US has four travel advisory levels with level 4 being the highest caution level.
The United States is ranked at number 6 on the list of most traveled from country to the Maldives in 2021 with 12,432 tourist arrivals.
