An S7 Airlines Airbus A320’s windshields outer lanes cracked after flying through a thunderstorm with hail.
The Airbus A320-200, registration VP-BOL was performing flight S7-1146 from Chelyabinsk to Moscow Domodedovo, Russia.
As the aircraft was climbing out after departure, it flew through a thunderstorm and encounter hail causing both windshields to crack.
The flight crew continued the flight to Moscow for a safe landing two hours later at Domodedovo Airport.
Hail can cause significant damage to the aircraft and airlines often delay or cancel flights if the risk of a hail storm is imminent.
A cracked windshield is among the most common damages suffered when flying through a hail storm.
Hailstones can mostly be the reason of cracks in the windshields. So, try to park your car inside the garage and not outside to prevent extra expenses for windshield replacement or repair.
Wow. WTF, and the crew decided to continue to Moscow at 36,000 ft. Not the brightest idea. Depressurization anyone? Lucky passengers, could have turned out much worse for all!
