An Egyptair flight was diverted as a Chadian woman gives birth mid-flight. The EgyptAir crew made an emergency landing in Aswan.
The Egypt Air flight was a scheduled flight from N’Djamena, to Cairo International Airport. The captain was notified mid-flight that a woman was going into labor.
The baby was delivered by the crew with help from a passenger, Laila Mohamed Abou Bakr, who is a student at the Faculty of Medicine at Kasr el-Ainy University in Cairo while the plane was flying over Sudan.
After landing in Aswan, the baby and the mother were taken to Aswan University Hospital, where they received necessary medical care.
Just last month a baby was born on board Indigo flight to Jaipur from Bangalore. Births on flights are extremely rare and only happen to about one in every 26 million passengers.
