Following the COVID-19 pandemic flights from China to the Maldives have been halted to this day with hardly any tourists arriving from the country which once dominated the tourist market in the country.
Now for the first time since the pandemic three airlines from China will be operating flights to the Maldives as the government of China is easing travel restrictions within the country.
China Eastern Airlines, Beijing Capital Airlines, and Hong Kong Airlines will start operating flights to the Maldives in January 2023 according to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
Beijing Capital Airlines will operate flights from Beijing Daxing International Airport to Velana International Airport (VIA) from 18th January to 22nd February. The carrier will operate four weekly flights.
China Eastern Airlines will operate flights from Shanghai Pudong International Airport to VIA from 28th January to 25th March operating weekly one flights.
Hong Kong Airlines operate flights from Hong Kong International Airport to VIA until 23rd March operating three weekly flights.
The Chinese government is set to ease travel restrictions on 8th January 2023. The continuation of flights from China will provide an immense boost to the tourism industry in the Maldives.
