Fly Lankan Asia, the newest and third international carrier of Sri Lanka is set to begin flight operations at the start of 2022.
Backed by US investors the airline plans to launch with a primary focusing towards cargo haul with the higher demand in the cargo market.
The airline will commence operations with a Boeing 737 which can accommodate up to 190 passengers. Discussions are ongoing to add 5 more airplanes to the fleet.
Maldives, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, UAE are on the table for the airline's initial routes with long-term plans for direct flights to Europe.
Sri Lanka’s flag carrier Sri Lankan airlines at present operates more than 20 weekly flights to the Maldives.
