Emirates Celebrates 35 Years of Service To Maldives

The largest and one of the flag carriers of the UAE, Emirates is celebrating 35 years of service to Velana International Airport.

Emirates began its service to the Maldives in May 1987 using a single Boeing 727 aircraft and today operated up to four times daily at peak.

The carrier operates flights between Dubai, UAE and Male’, Maldives with its Boeing 777-300ER. Emirates also operates transit flights to Colombo, Sri Lanka before returning to UAE.

Today's flight was met with a water cannon salute on arrival at Velana International Airport.

Emirates in 2021 operated 2,850+ flights carrying more than 254,000 passengers to the Maldives and finished as the top carrier for the year.
