COMAC C919: The Chinese Competitor To Airbus And Boeing Receives Certification

The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China’s (COMAC) narrow-body airliner the C919 has finally received its type certification from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).



The project was originally started in 2008 with a target to operate the maiden flight in 2014 however the project faced multiple delays and the first maiden flight took place in 2017.


This C919 will be a direct competitor to the widely popular narrow-body Boeing 737s and the Airbus A320s.


The list price for the C919 is USD 91 million which is in similar range to the cost Airbus A320neo and the Boeing 737 MAX.


The first aircraft is expected to be delivered to launch customer China Eastern Airline by the end of 2022.
